We are starting
Farzaneh Badii (NCSG)
05:43:58
well… that fine is not a risk. It’s to make compliance more effective. It’s actually a good thing :) but ok lets talk in biz language
Farzaneh Badii (NCSG)
05:57:53
I gotta drop off. Hopefully will dial back in in an hour
Ashley Heineman (GAC)
06:21:28
We should really stop saying "removing liability."
Ashley Heineman (GAC)
06:22:37
That being said, I'd like to hear and get confirmation from the DPAs that ICANN accepts the legal liabililty associated with disclosure as THEIR processing activity.
Milton Mueller (NCSG)
06:22:55
that's precisely what we are not getting
Ayden Férdeline (NCSG)
06:23:17
I would like to see ICANN’s staff notes from these various meetings with various European institutions. If these can be published that would be useful.
Andrea Glandon
06:54:47
Elena Plexida speaking
Alex Deacon (IPC)
06:57:14
It would be great to see these questions in writing.
Matthew Crossman (RySG)
06:58:28
+1 Alex
Terri Agnew
07:23:52
We will take a 15 min break
Terri Agnew
07:46:07
we are starting back up
milton mueller
08:07:16
Three cheers for Ashely's message. Let's Keep Calm and Carry on
Brian King (IPC)
08:16:22
Support to Marc, Ashley, Margie, Milton: let's keep pushing along with our work
Matt Serlin (RrSG)
08:17:47
We can either choose to let this derail our work or continue on and simply put the earlier sessions aside for the time being
Brian King (IPC)
08:18:03
+1 Matt
Matt Serlin (RrSG)
08:18:13
I think we’d all agree to carry on at this point
milton mueller
08:18:56
yep. no real obstacles that would cause a derailment
Mark Svancarek (BC)
08:19:15
Let's carry on.
Brian King (IPC)
08:19:40
Excelsior
Matt Serlin (RrSG)
08:19:51
I think we all have eyes wide open that whatever work we do could easily be impacted by what comes back from the strawberries
Volker Greimann (RrSG)
08:34:48
“Homeowner Accreditation Service, Inc"
Volker Greimann (RrSG)
08:35:14
“Curious people Accreditations, LLC”
Alex Deacon (IPC)
08:40:32
If we want to avoid those kinds of bodies, the policy we decide that describes the “Trusted Accreditation Body Program Policy” can be worded accordingly. As long as the policy is transparent, accountable and predictable we are on good footing IMO.
Chris Lewis-Evans (GAC)
08:48:07
Perfect!?!
milton mueller
08:48:54
Alex, transparency is not enough and accountability is impossible if it can;t be scaled. An open-ended accreditation model creates incentives for many groups with a vested interest in access to data to enter the fray - ESPECIALLY if authentication and authorization ae bundled
milton mueller
08:49:58
in other words, if the structure of your system creates incentives that invite abuse/overuse, the conseqwuences will be predictable
Chris Lewis-Evans (GAC)
08:53:33
Alan a C will always be local jurisdiction? yes
milton mueller
08:55:03
Alan assumes that if iCANN org tells us it doesn't want to do it we shouldn't put it into the policy. I question that assumption. ICANN must do what consensus policy tells it to do
Alex Deacon (IPC)
09:03:47
@milton - i am not propose an open ended accreditation model.
Alex Deacon (IPC)
09:03:55
*proposing
Ashley Heineman (GAC)
09:09:59
Milton - the track for non accredited... perahps they go through the status quo... ie: direct their requests directly to registrar.
Alex Deacon (IPC)
09:13:55
+1 Ashley - The “Rec 18 Reasonable Access” policy can be used at a minimum.
milton mueller
09:24:22
Ashley: that's interestsing. Maybe the whole system could work that way and we would save outselves a lot of trouble
milton mueller
09:24:36
James speaks truth
Matt Serlin (RrSG)
09:24:42
Amen to that
milton mueller
09:26:28
Ashely needs to be careful about making testable empirical hypotheses, too
milton mueller
09:27:28
"education issue" is only a small part of the problem, I suspect, it's just a question of free and no process before, now when you have to pay with a bit of $$ and time, you get less requests, basic economics
Ashley Heineman (GAC)
09:28:02
I need to be careful? Thank Milton. To be fair., I work with US law enforcement and I'm very familiar with the education problem there.
milton mueller
09:28:22
Do you have real data?
Ashley Heineman (GAC)
09:29:13
Hard to get data Milton when the folks involved don't know there is a problem. Let's keep things constructive, shall we?
milton mueller
09:30:29
I am being constructive, I am saying let's be data driven and not speculative
James Bladel (RrSG)
09:31:25
Sorry, not following this chat.
