Who is the number ending in 6759?
Michelle DeSmyter
32:54
@Greg- I will look further into that
Susan Payne (for SCA)
35:11
when did that happen, I don't have in my calenmdar and cannot make meeting on Tuesday
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
35:19
It
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
35:32
It's not on my calendar and I can't do Tuesday.
Greg Shatan
36:05
I do not have a conflict.
Lori Schulman
36:43
I dialed in late. how much time are we talking about?
Lori Schulman
37:08
I can’t do May 2 or 3
Susan Payne (for SCA)
37:46
I can do Thursday
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
38:08
I can do Thursday, but it's GOT to on the calendar to hold the time or it will fill.
Greg Shatan
38:13
May 1 or “May Day” is a holiday formally known as “International Workers Day.”. This year, ICANN is recognizing the holiday and closing its offices.
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
38:19
I have this time on Wednesdays protectively blocked.
Susan Payne (for SCA)
38:33
on the assumptiont that there is the same proposal for Sunrise, could you seek input on that as well please?
Lori Schulman
38:42
I am not free on May 2.
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
38:45
+1 Susan
julie.hedlund
38:55
Same for Sunrise — but not sure of the availability for Sub Team Co-Chairs
Ariel Liang
39:22
You are welcome to scroll through the summary table on your own
Cyntia King
43:21
Please pardon my late arrival.
migraham
44:46
I do not believe this was the "compromise" arrived at, and I object strenuously to the repeated assertion that we have "copious evidence" that it is not detering and that there are unintended and adverse consequences.
Cyntia King
45:21
Are we relying on respondents to say that they wanted to register in bad faith, but didn't because of eth Claims Notice? Cause that would be kinda ridiculous.
Cyntia King
46:25
@Migraham - Absolutely correct that this was not a compromise we all agreed with.
Susan Payne (for SCA)
46:31
that characterisation fromMichael and Kristine seems correct
Kathy Kleiman
47:09
agree with Phil
Cyntia King
48:35
The consensus is that it's likely both 'bad faith' & 'good faith' registrations were affected. However, as I stated last week, the poor understanding fo the Notification itself makes it impossible to know the effect.
Cyntia King
49:06
Now we're moving to the ridiculous.
Susan Payne (for SCA)
50:03
I thought the text we had for some time was "likley". When did it change to "possibly". I don't recall that being an agreed compromise
Ariel Liang
50:24
Per what Roger and Rebecca mentioned, discussion thread for Q1 will be open for Sub Team members to chime in and provide input to the draft answers & preliminary recommendations
Kathy Kleiman
50:30
precisely Greg!
Kathy Kleiman
51:06
no one has talked to a professoinal cybersquatter...
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
51:31
a professional cybersquatter is, by definition, not deterred.
Kathy Kleiman
51:54
that was Kristine
Kathy Kleiman
51:56
But I agree!
Susan Payne (for SCA)
52:03
@Kathy, there are other issues besides "professional cybersquatters"
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
52:13
No one thinks we
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
52:20
we're going to deter them...
Susan Payne (for SCA)
52:37
+1 Kristine
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
52:40
the claims notice is trying to catch the amateurs
Susan Payne (for SCA)
53:48
Goodness Michael - you mean you can't do this 24/7!
Cyntia King
54:02
@Kristine - I disagree. I think that some "professional cybersquatters" look for easy targets & receiving a Claims Notice shows that some domains are not easy targets.
Kathy Kleiman
54:59
how long do we spend rehashing.
migraham
55:51
@Cyntia -- Excellent point re: Cybersquatter questions and "easy targets"
migraham
56:45
@Kathy -- Agree, but also raised the issue of "is possibly" language because I sincerely do not believe it reflects either the evidence or our discussions.
Susan Payne (for SCA)
57:33
we did not get losts of evidence of unintended consequences Kathy
Susan Payne (for SCA)
58:02
But we did all agree weeks ago that we felt that this was a riskand we should have the notice amended
Philip Corwin
58:03
Can we show the recommendation???
Lori Schulman
58:11
and we have responses that claims do work. the degree of granularity for evidence is unreasonable
Greg Shatan
58:17
The data points we got were insufficient to qualify as evidence of unintended consequences.
julie.hedlund
58:21
The recommendation is on the screen.
Philip Corwin
58:32
That is, show the implementation guidance for Q3?
Cyntia King
58:51
@Kakthy - You're incorrect. We received lots of evidence that the Notice is deterring, but we cannot infer that the reason, whether confusing language of the Notice, noting a domain is not an easy target or an unwillingness to proceed out of fear of legal action.
Ariel Liang
59:03
If you are scrolling it on your own, it is from page 12-13
Cyntia King
01:00:47
@Ariel - I'm not able to scroll at all.....
Kathy Kleiman
01:01:12
Didn't we spend our hour or two or three debating and creating these recommendations?
Ariel Liang
01:01:20
@Cyntia and all - just resending the PDF document and you can download and scroll through
Cyntia King
01:01:33
Thanks @Ariel!
Ariel Liang
01:01:37
No problem
Susan Payne (for SCA)
01:03:16
I think Greg makes a really good point re recommendation in 1. That doesn't change the recommendation at Q3 necessarily, but explains in Q1 why we are proposing that a change to the wording will assist
Cyntia King
01:05:43
+1 @Phil
Susan Payne (for SCA)
01:06:19
I agree, except i think that explanation should be set out in Q1
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
01:06:39
Agree.
Philip Corwin
01:08:10
I am indifferent as to whether the linkage is in 1 or 3, so long as we provide that additional guidance as to the purpose of revising the notice language.
Philip Corwin
01:08:49
Who proposed this?
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
01:09:07
well now I know how to target competitor registrars.
Ariel Liang
01:09:27
George Kirikos proposed this
Philip Corwin
01:09:36
Last Q was in regard to the recommendation now being discvussed, not Qs 1 & 3
Cyntia King
01:09:38
So cost-offset okay, but not profit-making on Notices?
Cyntia King
01:11:35
Agreed, @Kristine. I know many people who check availability w/ no intention to actually register a name.
migraham
01:11:44
Agree with Kristine -- +1
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
01:11:53
@Cyntia...endlessly
Lori Schulman
01:14:15
yes, checking is normal. stopping a purchase sequence is normal. for myriad reasons including discovering what names are actually generating a claim.
Cyntia King
01:14:58
During the roll-out of a particularly relevant new gTLD, the TM owner, their attorney & their agent (me) typed in a list of TM names to ensure the notification was issued for all.
Cyntia King
01:15:10
Several times.
julie.hedlund
01:15:38
@All: Time check. This call ends at 5 minutes to the top of the hour to allow for a transition to the next call.
Cyntia King
01:16:30
+1 @Greg - Do we even know if there's any support among the Registrars?
julie.hedlund
01:16:38
@Susan: We see your hand is up. Is it a new hand?
Susan Payne (for SCA)
01:17:02
old sorry
Cyntia King
01:17:06
Consumer always pays in one way or another.
Kathy Kleiman
01:17:07
Quick note: in the past we have limited discussion of individual proposals to 20 minutes. Do we want to continue that again?
julie.hedlund
01:17:10
@Susan: Thanks :-)
Zak Muscovitch
01:17:14
@Cynthia and @Greg - indeed, if there is no request or interest from the registrar community it would mitigate against this particular proposal IMHO.
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
01:17:16
Amazon owns a regsistrar. I'm pretty sure we're in for free money. :)
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
01:17:31
<tongue in cheek>
Cyntia King
01:17:41
@Kristine - lol
julie.hedlund
01:17:49
@Greg: You have your hand up — is that a new hand?
Greg Shatan
01:18:23
There’s no such thing as free money. This would come out of TMCH registrant’s pockets.
Cyntia King
01:18:45
Or consumers
Cyntia King
01:19:40
Could you show us Proposal 6 so we know where we
Cyntia King
01:19:42
re starting?
Cyntia King
01:20:38
+1 @Susan
Kathy Kleiman
01:20:42
good question.
Kristine Dorrain (Amazon Registry)
01:20:50
@Greg, I agree. I was joking. (said with my IP owner hat on)
julie.hedlund
01:21:23
Hand up
julie.hedlund
01:21:27
for staf
julie.hedlund
01:21:29
staff
Greg Shatan
01:21:32
@Kristine, no problem. And anytime you’re in New York, I will buy you a “free lunch”!
Cyntia King
01:21:39
Do I correctly assume that registrar resellers receive this support fro the large registrars, so we're talking about a handful of very smal, independent registrars?
Susan Payne (for SCA)
01:21:42
thank you Roger
Kathy Kleiman
01:22:00
I love this new system... my mantra for the day!
Kathy Kleiman
01:22:36
Tx Roger!!!
Ariel Liang
01:22:49
Thanks everyone
