How many root servers are there in the Asia Pacific region? Would you need to be a technical organisation to be a partner?

IMRS instanceshttps://www.dns.icann.org/imrs/host/

41:02
@Maureen - for Oceania, at least 12 economies are hosting root servers (either IMRS or other root server alphabet). Oceania at last count has about 37 instances and I’ll continue to work with other economies (yes - network operators to express an interest to host).

42:10
There are around ~200 root server instances in the APAC

43:02
@maureen - yes we are continuously working with other pac Islands to host

43:02
Great thank you Champika

43:26
Interesting Save..

46:39
Just to further clarify ~200 root server instances => I.e. IMRS + other instances

48:46
I agree with ALSes to also advocate for these services at their local ccTLDs

48:59
Thanks JiaRong for that potential involvement

49:14
ALAC does have members who are technical, but it is not a technical group. That said, DNS Abuse is one of its top priorities

52:44
Btw, more on instances if anyone is keen:

54:37
Within the At-Large community we have a consolidated policy working group that meets weekly to discuss policy issues. It is packed with US and European participants and very few Asia Pacific participants which is really sad because the policy issues impact all of us in the Asia Pacific region as well.. for example the .org sale, and subpro discussions

56:47
True Maureen

59:26
apiga!!

59:26
APIGAhttp://apiga.asia/

59:38
ICANN Learn has some great introductory courses to introduce newcomers to core ICANN and its policy issues

01:01:19
There are some brilliant young ICANNers coming through from APIGA etc

01:02:43
ICANN Learn: https://learn.icann.org/#/public-dashboard

01:03:14
APIGA was the inital event which smoothly brought me into ig community! hopefully we would be able to held apiga this year again and bring more youth in the community!!!:)

01:04:58
The APRALO sessions have an Apac interest.so if community members from the region participate it helps to discuss our issues, perspectives and suggestions

01:05:08
Great - thanks

01:05:21
+1 jia-Rong

01:05:47
@Pam - great!

01:05:55
ICANN Learn has launched DNS and Policy Fundamentals, two new courses for newcomers that aren’t geared toward particular SOACs but that can be generally useful for new community members in tandem with the regional programming.

01:05:57
Agree with your suggestion Jia Rong

01:05:58
Awesome, Pam!

01:06:49
Pam ,would be a great mentor and encourage more AP members into the GNSO's many sections

01:07:12
The time for the CPWG isn’t great

01:07:41
CPWG shares the pain.. morning, afternoon and evening slot - fortunately.

01:07:55
@Pam, we recognize that and we’re happy to continue that discussion wit the APAC community. Speaking personally, I definitely understand.

01:08:05
Which is why maybe more APAC webinars on policy issues - in THIS time zone

01:08:39
Agree with your points Pam

01:09:18
EPDP- Expedited Policy Development Process - looking at the GDPR and its implications for WHOIS obligations

01:09:28
+1 Pam re doing something policy wise at a regional level - THAT needs to be on the regional strategic plan

01:09:50
I am an alternate on the EPDP - but you’re right, the time is VERY unfriendly

01:11:48
Do the webinar etc sessions have to be in English.. can they be in local Asian languages to encourage greater understanding of the issues so that they can contribute somehow..

01:12:57
the readouts are in local language

01:13:05
That's great

01:14:19
secret service! :-D

01:14:27
LOL

01:14:33
The Policy Team definitely works closely with Jiarong and the APAC team. We really want to facilitate more and better APAC participation!

01:14:57
Thanks Jia-Rong, Mary and others for the feedback.

01:18:09
love the mentorship program. How to ask a mentor from ICANN APAC for my national community program? Is there anyone I can reach out more about this?

01:18:28
