This session will give you as a Newcomer, Fellow or NextGen and idea of the main issues (policy development) ongoing and the policy Team collaborating with the different AC’s and SO’s.

01:06:54
Interactive meetings are better. That’s a better than some of yesterday’s meetings. Thank you!

01:07:20
Noted Brenda

thanks

01:08:29
Thanks @Brenda and @Alfredo

01:17:00
if you have time during ICANN73 and even not a technical person - it is worth trying to attend tech sessions (it will broaden horizons)

01:18:41
Thanks for the advice @Maxim

01:18:45
The "view speaker" doesn't work for me, unfortunately. I only see Melissa, no matter who's speaking.

01:20:40
@Harald Alvestrans, you may need to reload Zoom for the most updated version.

01:21:43
Hi @Melissa 🙂

01:21:50
Good to see you again

01:22:12
As Bart as highlighted, the program for Tech Day focuses on technical and operational issues. What’s particularly noteworthy is that the program and agenda is community-led and driven, through the Working Group.

01:23:17
Nice!

01:23:34
So Intresting

01:23:48
Indeed interesting topic

01:24:16
I would love to have a session with SSAC

01:25:13
SSAC has a public session.

01:25:55

01:25:59
Why not with fellows as Atlarge and RSSAC did?

01:29:15
The SubPro PDP also addressed a number of these issues with respect to policy issues associated with future rounds of new gtlds

01:29:17
Historically, the SSAC Chair has met directly with fellows. If this is not happening now I’m not aware. Bring the question to the SSAC public meeting: https://73.schedule.icann.org/meetings/C7ntoPsDGpSnyr2eL

01:29:57
Ok Thank you

01:30:18

01:34:07
@Ayesha, Fellows usually had directly meetings with all communities representatives, but as there are some communities holding public sessions at ICANN73, separate sessions were not planned, however fellows who are interested in participating, are more than welcome to join those public sessions

01:34:11
<COMMENT>. The GNSO Takes a different approach and although the Bylaw role of the GAC is at the end of the process, the GNSO has over the years tried to bring the GAC in at the beginning of the process (and throughout the PDP). This is because by the end of the process, it is too late to consider input from the GAC within the PDP. So, it makes more sense to involve them at the beginning. <END COMMENT>

01:34:58
We are currently listening to panel 2: IDNs

01:35:14
Very informative session

01:35:48
There will be also a special session for fellows planned on “How Policy Works”, and everyone is encouraged to ask questions on on how policy works within different constituencies

01:36:15
@ Jeff: Joke was talking about the formal need to involve the GAC in the process. As she also mentioned, the GAC as well as others are provided updates on the progress to date

01:36:29
We are currently listening to panel 2: IDNs

01:36:34
@Jeff - great segue to panel 3 where we will talk more about early engagement of Advisory Committees in GNSO policy development activities.

01:36:38
ICANN73 Policy Update Resource Documenthttps://go.icann.org/policyresourcedoc73

01:38:11
@Bart - Thanks. My point was not about updating the GAC, but rather involving the GAC in the process. I am not judging what the ccNSO does, I am just pointing out one of the things the GNSO has been trying to do.

01:38:15
In addition, members of the GAC as well as other SO?ACs are invited to participate in any way that would best work for them.

<QUESTION>Is there any coordination between ICANN and the ITEF regarding IDN ?<QUESTION>

01:39:53
is that IETF Nabeel?

01:40:34
lots of RFCs

01:40:37
<QUESTION> Is there any coordination between ICANN and the IETF regarding IDN ?<QUESTION>

01:41:11
As far as I remember, IETF advice is taken into consideration by ICANN PDP. right?

01:41:18
We are currently listening to panel 2: IDNs

01:41:59
The IETF defines technical standards (e.g., IDNA). The ICANN Policy development uses the technical standards and make policies.

01:42:04
Please view the ICANN73 Policy Update Resource Document - https://go.icann.org/policyresourcedoc73

01:42:25
I think so @Ahmad

01:42:29
IDN related IETF standards can be found at https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/rfcs-2012-02-25-en

01:42:56
Thank you Steve 🙂

01:42:56
Thanks @Eva

01:43:16
and @Steve 🙂

01:44:01
U are welcome Guys

01:44:21
For example, on the issues of variant management. Recently IETF publishes RFC 9095 that provides a mechanism for EPP to handle bundle registrations.

01:44:46
The mechanism defined can be used by registries to implement variant handling in registry level.

01:44:52
Just one example.

01:45:10
👌

01:45:29
Thanks @Steve

01:45:43

01:52:20
Thank you in turn, Maxim, and indeed the entire ICANN community, for your commitment to the multi-stakeholder model and your continued time and work in multiple policy work streams (especially in this extended time of wholly virtual meetings!)

01:54:26
Is it just me, or can we no longer see the speakers

01:55:04
I can see them well

01:56:16
Thanks to the team for this session format. I'm sure it's more work to present things in this format but I do think it is more engaging.

01:56:31
speakers recovered. thanks

01:57:15
Thanks Susan. More effort indeed yet we hope a good result for everyone

01:58:14
Yes, thanks, Susan! As David and Melissa noted at the beginning of this session, we wanted to reflect the increasing cross-community interactions and discussions that we are seeing throughout various policy initiatives and processes, and in some cases at an earlier phase too (as Marika and Fabien noted).

Thankfully, many of the new gTLDs have incorporated significant controls and policy rules that mitigate DNS Abuse significantly

02:02:59
We are currently listening to panel 3: gTLD Registration Data

02:07:01
<QUESTION> What is the ICANNs DNS policy regarding WHOIS privacy? <QUESTION>

02:08:55
@Nabeel - the policy that is current in force is the Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data (see https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/gtld-registration-data-specs-en/#temp-spec). This Temporary Specification will be replaced by the policy recommendations that were developed as a result of the EPDP Phase 1 which are currently in the implementation phase.

02:08:59
check PPSAI IRT https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/privacy-proxy-services-accreditation-15dec21-en.pdf

02:09:38
And as Maxim notes, there are also policy recommendations that have been developed in relation to privacy and proxy services.

02:09:52
Thank you Marika 🙂
