Maybe we are all automatically muted. I hope so
Hi Marita — we’re just getting started. Can your question wait until we’re through Brian’s introduction?
Sure. This is really a getting accustomed to the zoom interface issue
We all have a lot to learn. Thanks for your patience. :)
Hi Everyone - thanks for joining - all participants are muted just for the presentation - once the Q&A begins, everyone will be unmuted for participation
Hi Danko -that is correct
Hi Folks, I participated with Larry Sticklands research on Multistakeholderism and he delivered the training at African Internet Summit and elsewhere, he has retired and ISOC dropped this initiative
do we have links to the slideshow
Hi Glenn, the slides will be posted to this page after the webinar: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/governance-plan-improve-multistakeholder-model-2019-04-08-en
None of us can see the participants so only the panalists well see hands or any que it seems in thi set up.
This is an interesting philosophical discussion on the importance of multistakeholderism to provide legitimacy for ICANN.
and of course to @Martas point that reaction to resources alse is effected by whi thinhs they are resourcing ICANN
that also brings in strong biases
If you would like to speak, feel free also to hit the raise hand button located on the tool bar at the bottom of your screen
I am at a conference in Mexico on the discussion of new NAFTA agreement and impact on digital rights for US, Canada and Mexico
I will followup with Brian after rereading the slides and comment
On inclusivity. organizations and committees have categories to fullfil, sometimes its tickboxes vs the valuable imput from marginalized communities
<comment>On prioritization, it would appear that there is nobody empowered to draw a conclusion from community discussion. The CEO can state things that he sees, but speaks for ICANN in a corporate sense. What I'm looking from is someone that is specifically empowered to say "we all seem to be saying <this>" and have people agree or disagree.</COMMENT>
If you would like to speak, hit the raise hand button located on the tool bar at the bottom of your screen
consensus is measured according to the charter of the particular group
not equal between different groups
for the burnout : please check https://gnso.icann.org/en/group-activities/calendar and most of the PDPs have to be at least followed (and participation involves e-mail work), also there are multiple review teams work the same time.
Excellent point @Marita
Understood Maxim, will do, thank you
of course too fast for those who are not english natives. this is an inclusivity issue
I think these are huge -- as per my earlier inputs
Good point on culture issue
it seems @Brian, even the deffinition of terms ike cukture need to be established
Indeed @ Abdul -- culture has many aspects
terms like culture
deliberatly trying to stay silent on these three ;-)
what is the cost of policy making ?
what are you calling cost of policy making ?
I also don't think all these Issues are created 'equal'
This relates to complexity as well. Has to be some memory
yes indeed @Marita
and re Terms there is probably a need to look at this issues in muliple layers and places in the ICANN model (whatever that ends up being)
Sounds good to me @Kristina preparation is then key and that also takes time that needs to be recognised, appreciated and indeed faciitated
better not the same time (about sessions)
I think understanding other people's positions is really important. Relates to education about the MS process
VERY true @Kristina trust and understanding tend to go hand in hand
even in the absence of agfreement
As a reminder, there is an open Public Comment Proceeding on this topic: https://www.icann.org/public-comments/evolving-multistakeholder-model-2019-04-25-en
