Visit https://atlarge.icann.org to join the appropriate Regional At-Large Organization (RALO) for your country of origin. It is an excellent opportunity to learn about the Domain Name System and everything that it encompasses. RALOs represent their views in ICANN's bottom-up, consensus-based, multi-stakeholder policy development process. We can always benefit from new perspectives; So join a RALO and help improve the Internet.

your domain or website, could be reachable in wider regions if you apply the knowledge here.

03:53:36
Also, unfortunately, addressing complaints about website content or otherwise abusive websites is outside of ICANN's scope and authority.

03:53:56
@Nicole could you please lower your hand unless you have another question

03:55:08
</QUESTION> Are there measures in place to address malicious use of domain names? </QUESTION>

03:57:35
Can domain names be more fortified so as to be protected from hackers?

03:57:39
question- what is emoji in domain names? can we use emoji in domain name?

03:57:39
would the domain names be able to be convertible?

03:57:50
( Question; We in India speak different languages, Do we need Global UA Framework to address multilingual isssues. how to address.

04:00:53
@Roxanne, there is work on the community to address secure use of IDNs - see the work on Root Zone Label Generation Rules: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/root-zone-lgr-2015-06-21-en

04:04:43
YES IT DOES

04:04:54
I don't believe that the devs should be responsible for other people's behaviour, for instance there are multiple services available today that people use with malicious intent, for example, Telegram. Yes, there can be measures in place to prevent this but they are not the police and what they can do is alert the proper authorities when misuse is detected. What they should be responsible for is the security of the service.

ICANN Glossary of terms

04:25:00
https://www.icann.org/en/icann-acronyms-and-terms?nav-letter=a&page=1

04:25:27
Making UTF8 the default for DNS was heavily debated back then, but the wisdom of the time was, asmong other reasons: it would have confused the “installed base” of systems and software on the net; note there are no flag days that would support central changes and two decades ago there weren’t two dominant app stores and automated updates that would have supported (instant) upgrades of large numbers of systems in no time

04:26:24
Very good, Peter. Thank you

04:28:34
#comment, for clarity: The characters and numbers that form part of the ASCII table is in fact a subset of the Unicode table which is larger. Isn't it logical to replace the ASCII codes with Unicode and make Unicode the singular code for the DNS, rather than introduce Unicode as a layer that needed to be converted 'backward' into ASCII to result in a cumbersome system that resolved a) as ASCII + b) as punycode ASCII translated from Unicode ? (answered already. Question rephrased for clarity of record)

04:30:38
... are in fact .... (typo)

04:54:05
What is regex?

04:54:32
Regex = regular expression

04:55:34
@samad why a limit of 6-7 characters for regex?

04:56:06
@Sarmad (sorry)

04:57:58
Limiting a label to 6-7 characters is incorrect. Earlier Top-level domains were normally less than 7 characters (e.g. com = 3 characters) so these expressions were used.

04:58:21
But this is no longer true.

04:58:46
Six for .museum

04:59:22
Thank you. 6-7 charcter limit in regex implied the limits of the programmer's imagination in those times

05:00:02
Yes, an arbitrary limit; standard allows for up to 63.

05:00:03
Dennis said the list of TLDs in the root zone changes periodically. This link gives an authoritative list of TLDs currently active in the root zone: https://data.iana.org/TLD/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt

05:00:55
it is no longer use, but not all code ever written is upgraded, some code of old may remain unattended and unchanged somewhere

05:07:10
thank you @ Daniel
