48:13
Thank you Kathy.
Yusif Amadu
50:00
The bottom-up policy approach does not work in most part of Africa as decisions always taken by the ragolators.
Milton Mueller
52:09
Exactly what I am talking about Yusif
Lavish Mawuena Mensah
55:30

59:34
Inspiring short history. Worth the retelling.
Farzaneh Badii
01:01:34
Ben, I want 30 secs!
Milton Mueller
01:01:46
Christopher making a “quick” intervention? ;-)
Farzaneh Badii
01:01:50
Thank you, please….
Milton Mueller
01:02:07
I want to respond, too
Farzaneh Badii
01:02:24
To GNSO?
Farzaneh Badii
01:02:33
power is bestowed upon governments
John More
01:02:54
How can civil society thwart the push of authoritarian regimes to control the Internet? How slow down democratic countries from over-regulating?
Milton Mueller
01:03:28
oh no I do need to respond
Raoul Plommer
01:04:23
My slice of exposure can be very short indeed during this session. That's fine. It's important to get answers for these suspicions.
Raoul Plommer
01:06:32
If something needs to be rebalanced, it's our representation at NomCom. That's a really glaring inbalance, which is as clear as it could be.
Kathryn Kleiman
01:06:40
Agree with Milton on this.
christopher wilkinson
01:07:06
Evidently, I disagree with Milton. CW
Farzaneh Badii
01:07:11
agreed Raoul. It’s not a rebalance. It’s only fair!
Raoul Plommer
01:09:11
...and that has been dragging on for like five years now and by the looks of it, is not going to change, despite the stern recommendation from external consultants.
Raoul Plommer
01:10:04
it's just a very minor detail in the big picture but goes to show, how we can't even have what really belongs to us.

01:15:27
I think ICANN has nothing to do with protecting consumers from fake Gucci bags.
Gabriel Kwakye
01:15:58
Good to jo
Benjamin Akinmoyeje
01:18:45
Please @ncuc on twitter and let the conversation continue.
Marita Moll
01:18:49
@Farzaneh -- I think that is disrespectful to the many volunteers who work on the At Large side of the equation
Benjamin Akinmoyeje
01:19:12
Please follow @ncuc on twitter and let the conversation continue.
Farzaneh Badii
01:19:49
But why Marita? We don’t have a good definition for consumer protection, this is what I am pointing out. Why is it disrespectful?
Jonathan Zuck
01:20:21
Let's stay focused on the speakers, if we can.
Milton Mueller
01:23:39
I want to be your policy chair, Raoul
Adam Peake
01:23:54
The webinar series Raoul mentioned, you can find an archive here https://community.icann.org/display/NPOCC/Webinars
Raoul Plommer
01:24:07
Thanks Adam!
Raoul Plommer
01:24:31
Milton, by all means but I'm afraid you're jesting only :P
Farzaneh Badii
01:24:54
Milton, you need to become an NPOC member first…
Cheryl Langdon-Orr
01:25:11
and NCSG also has log standing Individual Members directly such as @Avri and even myself...
Bruna Martins dos Santos
01:25:22
Indeed
Cheryl Langdon-Orr
01:25:27
long not log ;-)
Raoul Plommer
01:25:58

Adam Peake
01:27:13
I must leave for another call. Thank you, Olga, Ben, for organizing this webinar, great to see these activities continue after the additional budget request of a few years ago. Hope to see you, somewhere, sometime this year. Be well, and thanks.
Adam Peake
01:27:35
OK. Ignore that message. I’ll stay!
Farzaneh Badii
01:27:53
What changed your mind Adam? :)
John More
01:28:14
No need for me to speak.
Adam Peake
01:28:23
Q&A, and I expect the other call will be 5 mins of agenda
Cheryl Langdon-Orr
01:30:45
Indeed @Bruna Communication is key. Thise examples were communications exercises
Jonathan Zuck
01:31:29
We share an interest in greater non-commercial participation in ICANN policy development. that core goal unites us and serves as a basis for joint outreach.
Benjamin Akinmoyeje
01:31:30
I want to encourage new members to ask questions? Please ask questions
Kathryn Kleiman
01:31:51
questions from others? I just wanted to kick it off :-)
Bruna Martins dos Santos
01:31:58
Id be happy to go back to organizing the joint outreaches, tbh.
Marita Moll
01:32:30
We all have an interest to make sure ICANN's MSM model works -- we need to work together
Jonathan Zuck
01:32:47
Agree, Marita
Adam Peake
01:33:13
Now I should leave. Thanks again. Be well
Jonathan Zuck
01:33:25
Take our new class!AtLarge.news/welcome
Ioana Stupariu
01:34:25
I have a Q, I would be curious. What is the rate of newcomer (new members) applications during the pandemic? How much have the numbers changed compared to before the pandemic?
Cheryl Langdon-Orr
01:35:01
Indeed SeB much opportunity for mutualism in the Implementation of ATRT3 Recs
Bruna Martins dos Santos
01:35:03
At NCSG we don’t have that information but I was wondering the same thing, @Ioana. Will take a look and let you know later.
Farzaneh Badii
01:35:38
some of the first joint meetings with NCUC and At large was initiated during my time as the chair of NCUC. Which continued when I was NCSG chair. I couldn’t attend them unfortunately because of the travel ban. Bruna and others are continuing that too
Jonathan Zuck
01:35:56
@Ioana, outreach has been challenging. The North American Regional At-Large Organization has been focused on educational efforts, this past year, for example.
Milton Mueller
01:35:57
It is a good question from Ioana. I think NCSG should have records of who applied for membership during the past year?
Farzaneh Badii
01:36:49
We haven’t been able to do much outreach. I am not too optimistic
Raoul Plommer
01:37:14
Most new members come straight from live meetings, I'd guess 80-90% of them.
Kathryn Kleiman
01:37:35
It's been hard for working parents, among others.
Lavish Mawuena Mensah
01:37:38
Thanks Zuck for the resource...
Ioana Stupariu
01:37:46
There were departures too? That is also interesting, would be interested to see that too (numbers)
Ioana Stupariu
01:37:55
Thanks Bruna
Raoul Plommer
01:38:45
I know of at least one departure - that guy was here longer than a decade, I think.. :/
Cheryl Langdon-Orr
01:42:44
Well said @JZ!
Benjamin Akinmoyeje
01:42:47
Please keep the questions
John More
01:42:49
Agree fully with Jonathan. My experience since I am active with other organizations.
Poncelet Ileleji
01:43:18
+1Jonathan
avri doria
01:46:36
As an inactive NCSG/NCUC member and an inactive AL member, I find listening into the NCSG Policy calls and the AL CPWG among the best ways to keep up with the policy issues from a civil society perspective. I recommend them both.
Farzaneh Badii
01:47:12
That’s helpful advice Avri. Very objective as well. I agree.
Farzaneh Badii
01:48:16
+1 Milton. you need to find that passion and the spark. :)
Jonathan Zuck
01:48:24
Agree Milton. Getting a few, dedicated people, is the key
Farzaneh Badii
01:48:53
And ICANN mission is really narrow. So people are rightfully not paying a lot of attention
Farzaneh Badii
01:49:02
there are more shiny topics such as social media
Farzaneh Badii
01:50:32
I agree with JZ.
Marita Moll
01:50:44
Agreed Milton -- it is a complex area and not everyone's cup of tea. But having avenues for people to be reasonably informed without completely immersed will also help as it will be a preview.
Milton Mueller
01:50:47
I think old people should rule
Raoul Plommer
01:50:59
You would think that.
Milton Mueller
01:51:04
we should have a seniority system.
Milton Mueller
01:51:16
just kidding of course
Farzaneh Badii
01:51:19
Sure Milton. We give you a tiara. You’ll be the king
Bruna Martins dos Santos
01:51:43
but but, i want a tiara too
Milton Mueller
01:51:45
No Steve Crocker is the oldest, he gets the tiara
Jonathan Zuck
01:52:02
Steve had his chance to rule!
Milton Mueller
01:52:13
OK, Bruna get the tiara and I get a crown
Milton Mueller
01:52:28
or maybe a football helmet
Herb Waye Ombuds
01:52:35
Excellent session. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. Be safe and be kind.
Farzaneh Badii
01:52:38
kings are supposed to sit back and be royal.
avri doria
01:52:43
From my perspective, hearing from civil society is critical. Glad to see the various groups discussing together. Thanks for the session.
Kathryn Kleiman
01:52:44
Tx you Olga and Benjamin!
Bruna Martins dos Santos
01:52:51
Thank you so much, Milton. I will happily use my tiara once we can go back to meetings. Didn’t we have a glitter stick once ?
Winthrop Yu - ISOC-PH
01:52:53
Great webinar. Thanks all!Bye & Stay Well everyone!
Marita Moll
01:52:53
Good session. Thanks to the organizers
