Hello from Uruguay!

01:10:26
Lol…too many question marks there…though I suppose that’s the point :)
Sean Atkinson-Henry
01:11:08
Fingers crossed the first question mark goes soon!
Maxim Alzoba
01:12:19
in their indefinite wisdom ICANN added ODP … and potentially IDNs EPDP as an additional ating item
Maxim Alzoba
01:12:22
gating
Maxim Alzoba
01:18:35
the worst thing is that ICANN issued AGBs versions after the closure of the application window
Brian King
01:19:30
Great point on new interest, Tony. Has anyone heard of Instagram, for example? Android app launched April 2012 after the first round closed.
Maxim Alzoba
01:26:42
@Brian, this year the social platforms lost part of their attraction , showing some are not welcome and that third party rights there are minimal if none
Brian King
01:29:29
@Maxim, I have a couple hundred more examples. Pick your industry :-). Point is, there are new industry giants that were either not yet founded or still startups during the 2012 round. Remember, in the US at least, we were barely emerging from the Great Recession the last time anyone could apply for a TLD.
Annebeth Lange
01:34:18
Perfection for some might not be perfection for others. So perfection is tricky.
Paulo Marcos Drewiacki (.br)
01:37:44
Should we discuss marketing alternatives for the next round?

@Brian, ICANN seems to have missed the good years … launching during decline might be not very funny
Tony Kirsch
01:41:35
@maxim - not sure what you mean by decline. The DNS is used by almost everyone on a daily basis. Not sure it has any relevance to launching something that’s previously been committed to the community
Matt Serlin
01:46:10
On that point, I think a lot of the reason we saw a number of .brands drop their gTLDs was because by the time they were delegated and able to operate, the people who were involved in applying had actually left the company so this timing has all kinds of implications.
Cole Quinn
01:46:42
+1 Matt on the importance of timing
Maxim Alzoba
01:46:51
@Tony, I meant issues in economy globalwide
Cole Quinn
01:48:30
+1 Olga- I think it's an important opportunity for ICANN to demonstrate strong and clear leadership and communication and not leave it for the rumor mill
Brian King

01:50:43
It might be helpful for ICANN (in the communication being proposed) to explain the resources they’ve already invested in development of updated policies by supporting the SubPro PDP. This was a significant investment on ICANN’s part and something I would hope to reassure at least some of the parties that need this reassurance.
J.C. Vignes (UNR)
01:50:55
+1 @Matt… the longer we wait the harder it will be to keep momentum post application.
Matt Serlin
01:51:46
Do we worry that organizationally, ICANN has lost SO many of the staff that worked on the first round that it will take them longer to gear up just to get staff up to speed on the program, process, etc?
Cole Quinn
01:51:55
...and the longer it takes the more "stale"the work becomes
Cole Quinn
01:53:03
and yes, Matt, the Tribal Knowledge equity disappears as well
Peter LaMantia
01:53:42
+1 Olga. Rafa - excellent views from brands simply needing to socialize the value of owning a .brand with a general timeline to gain internal buy in. neither policy nor exact dates need to be specific.
Dawn Shackleton BRG Director dotSky
01:53:56
+1 Olga communication/publicity is key for all sizes of commercial organisations and it has to be global
Maxim Alzoba
01:57:00
at least every 10 years ;)
Yoshi.Murakami
01:58:08
I am not sure if this help but I have sent a letter to ICANN board that there are some appetite for the new gTLDs at least from Japan. You can find my original letter in Japanese herehttps://www.icann.org/en/system/files/correspondence/murakami-to-icann-board-01jun21-en.pdfAnd English translationhttps://www.icann.org/ja/system/files/correspondence/murakami-to-icann-board-01jun21-ja.pdfThank you

commercial orgs are successful because they communicate well with their customers. they make the effort to get to know their customers and more importantly their potential customers

Maxim Alzoba
02:07:18
this time IDN epdp has a huge potential of extending the next round for a year or two
Peter LaMantia
02:07:27
Very simple ICANN. Demand exists. SubPro work is complete and approved. It is ICANN's obligation to continue the gTLD program as soon as possible. In its current state ICANN leaves most brands at a digital competitive disadvantage. A decade later it is time to level the playing field and move it forward.
